SOCRATES SCULPTURE PARK
… A similar, slightly conservative faith in the sculptural object emanates from Nick Micros’ ‹Monument with Niches and Burls›. An enormous edifice carved in four chunks of limestone, this big swelling piece is a medley of shifting textures, knob-like protrusions and unexpected orifices. It bridges the public and extremely private, as if Bernini and Yves Tanguy had attempted a collaboration. Studying its ponderous whole and delicate parts, one thinks of fountains, pedestals, Chinese scholars’ rocks, Japanese rock gardens, sex, gun turrets and teapots. It could handle a large garden or small square with aplomb.
